Grace Herold "Donnie" 1965 Crying Character Baby, Porcelain & Cloth, Cute Outfit

Description

Look at this poor sad little lad with shiny tears running down his plump rosy cheeks. He definitely needs a hug. . . and a home. His name is "Donnie," as indicated in gilt letters on the front of his shoulder plate, and on the back he is signed in gold  "Grace Herold 1965," with a penciled digit "526." The same number is written in pencil on the bottom of his right foot. Dismal Donnie appears to be Herold's own unique creation, as in 1965 she was granted a copyright for "Original porcelain baby doll head. Tearful expression." Out of satiny smooth porcelain, Donnie is beautifully sculpted and decorated, with brush-stroked hair, blue painted eyes with tiny upper lashes, gleaming molded tears, and a pursed pouting lips, The same delicate detail appears in his pudgy hands and fat little feet with blushed nails. He is on a sturdy clean cloth body and wears an adorable blue gingham romper that closes in the back with three tiny buttons and a cute crocheted cap. Overall this tragic tot is in wonderful condition, with no breaks or repairs to the pale flawless porcelain. The outfit could use a little freshening and the porcelain just a bit of cleaning. There is a hair-thin faint line starting at his left knee and running down the right side of the shin. It is very hard to see and I cannot tell whether it is a manufacturing flaw or stress line. There is also a rough patch of mold debris on the center of the left edge of the shoulder plate. Both these flaws are only noticeable on the closest inspection.
