Great 1880s "all original" US Army Artillery Dress Helmet as complete as you can possibly get. Outside of Ebay, this set would easily go for double what I am asking here. Inside it has a leather fully intact sweatband Stamped: “Horstman & Sons” (Famous Phila. Military Supplier) plus there is also an Inspector's Stamp. Front Brass Plate with spread eagle, brass, original, ribbon with “E Pluribus Unum”, crossed cannons for Artillery, and a silver “6” for 6th US Artillery. In the eagle's bottom talons are an olive branch for peace and arrows for a war. Above that is an original oak leaf brass cap on the crown. Then, above it is brass finial ball. It has a pimple size dent but no big deal and it is original. Then above the ball is in original brass plume holder with a small spread eagle and union shield. Then, there is the original red horse hair with an original brass round cap it on to the finial with a nice patina. There are two original small brass cord holders beneath the oak leaf base with brass rings. And original red dusty braided helmet cord. Original red chest cords waffle bottoms and tassels, no breaks or major issues. Two original brass side buttons with crossed cannons for Artillery. Intact leather black Helmet Strap. Leather clad brim all there with no major issues, cracks, or damage and original inside is full leather 1 7/8 inch high sweat band. All there, even has white silk bowtie at back joining both ends of the sweatband and a label “7” for the size. Under the sweatband says: “WM. H. Horstman” and an Inspector Stamp with no date. The helmet even comes with a professional made wood stand so you can display it !!! If a 10 rating is perfect, then conservatively this is a minimum 9. Maybe Unused NOS with just light storage wear. This hat and all components are not reproductions. if you think it is modern, please to not bid or even bother to email me. I have collected on sold military items and antiques for over 50 years and know the difference. See all photographs and details as there are no returns. The real deal and all original. ready to display in your home or office, with a professional wood stand.
