This is a VERY RARE and Unusual Item dating back to the late 1860's to early 1870's.  By 1874 the US Army had begun standardizing all of the Accutrements used by the troops.  Most of the State Militias and Guard Units followed with this standarization shortly after this period.  Very similar in overall shape and size to the No. 2 Hagner Box.
