Original Indian Wars US M1873 trowel bayonet, dug-up specimen in relic condition

Description

Rare Indian Wars era experimental M1873 "trowel bayonet" in well-used condition. This awkward bayonet / digging tool sounded like a good idea on paper, but in reality it proved to be too cumbersome of a bayonet an too small of an entrenching tool. This piece in relic condition; it was dug-up "straight from the ground", according the the previous owner. The bayonet does show signs of use and abuse - the locking ring is missing, the muzzle ring is bent; multiple edge nicks and a thin crack on one side. This bayonet is about is 14-1/8” /36 cm overall; the blade is about 10” /25.6 cm long and 3-1/2” /9 cm wide at the base. It is obviously used; surface rust is noted for accuracy - it could be cleaned but personally I would prefer to keep the current "as is" look. The scabbard did not survive.
