Description
This auction is for a 1992 Orion (Vixen or Nihon Seiko of Japan) 1.25-inch Moon filter. It will come with its original plexiglass storage case.
This is real-tinted Japanese glass that will not have pitting or peeling issues. It is extremely durable and will give even color throughout the visible plane.
Made of milled aluminum and tinted plate glass.
This is a dark gray-format tint glass. The Moon WILL NOT appear bluish, purplish or pale green. It will simply appear darker than what you'd currently see it as and would be the same as using high quality polar sunglasses.
The filter will definitely cut down on the total brightness of the Moon's surface; you'll only get 13% incoming light. So this will reduce a lot of eye strain from brightness when it is at near full or complete full phase, as well as adding outstanding enhanced contrast around the terminator region when at quarter-to-half phase.
Not so much beneficial in tiny refractors (1.5-inch to 3-inch), but in 4-inch and larger telescope, particularly on near full Moon nights with low power at the eyepiece, it will definitely improve what you can pick out in fine detail.
Also, these Moon filters work wonders when using your refractor, schmidt, or maksutov cassegrain for daytime observing of things like ships on the sound, glacier and rock formations on mountains, or wildlife that is against bright light sources like sky, light-colored rocks/sand, or buildings. Place this Moon filter on your eyepiece while observing that hawk atop the tree and you won't be squinting due to the image being so bright.
This filter will thread to nearly ANY 1.25-inch eyepiece that has female threads on its lower barrel. Whether from Japan, USA, China, Taiwan, or Russia (Soviet Union if by TAL depending on years), it should not be an issue. Below, however, are specific instances in which this filter will not work with a 1.25-inch ocular.
This filter will not thread to eyepieces branded Criterion, Bausch And Lomb Criterion, Vernonscope, Brandon, and/or Questar. This filter may have issues fully threading to the very first years of the Tele Vue plossls and Wide Fields with the "NJ JAPAN" inscriptions.
Packed with great care.
