Description

This is a rear sight for a Model 1877 Springfield Trapdoor Rifle (2nd form).
The sight opens and closes easily.  The ladder slide moves, and is very tight.
The base is stamped with an “R” for rifle (Note: the carbine sight was stamped with a “C”).
Excellent condition as shown in photos.
The model 1877 sight varies from the Model 1873 sight in the graduated base: it goes to 500 yards in 25 yard intervals.  The ladder is also different in that it is graduated in 50 yard intervals up to 800 yards, and in 25 yard intervals from 800 to 1100 yards.   The only change from the first form of the Model 1877 sight to the second form is that the base is not notched, but is smooth.
