    Description

    Original and very scarce Victorian era British Pattern 1879 Sawback Sword Bayonet and Scabbardfor the .577-450 caliber Martini Henry Rifle and Artillery Carbine. Bayonet is nicely marked on both sides of the ricasso, blade measures just about 25 3/4 inches in length, remains mostly factory bright in color, and is age tarnished in places. The original checkered leather handles are intact, remain in good condition, and are original to the bayonet. The locking mechanism works and functions perfectly. The leather scabbard with metal fittings is original to the bayonet, is all intact, although the tip from age and use is very fragile in condition. These bayonets are very rare and saw very heavy use mostly with artillery units in the last part of the 20th century. Absolutely 100% lifetime guaranteed to be an original.
