    Description

Antique U.S. Saber Bayonet measuring 25.5" overall with a blade length of 20". Socket diameter, .700".  This bayonet is very similar to the M1873 Winchester Bayonet, but different.  Hardin lists it as an unknown in his landmark work, "The American Bayonet". Unmarked, single fullered blade. Solid brass hilt with with fish scale grip. A large "6" is stamped on the cross-guard , there also seems to have a "7" in front of it, but not as sharp. Entire handle has a nice rich aged patina, as do the scabbard ends.  Blade looks very nice with some light wear, age patina. The scabbard leather body is intact, but has flaking and leather loss, center area shows flexibility due to this. I have a dowel attached to entire scabbard with rubber bands to keep it from any further damage (for when you remove the bayonet).  Bayonet is tight, with no looseness, the brass scabbard ends are also tight.   See photos for further details, clarification, and condition.
