Description
Unfinished 19thC CARTRIDGE BOX PLATE First Troop Philadelphia City Cavalry FTPCCFrom the archives of MC Lilley (and probably Horstmann, see below), this listing is for an unfinished cartridge box plate for the First Troop Philadelphia City Cavalry. The plate is stamped lead and has the FTPCC script insignia surrounded by text TRENTON 1774 PRINCETON. The oval plate has dimensions approximately 2 ⅜” x 2 ⅞”. The cartridge box plate is unfinished, it would have been trimmed to an oval shape, the FTPCC lettering diecut, and probably plated prior to use. The condition is VF to Excellent, unfinished. Please look at all the photos and ask any questions. See my other listings. Combined shipping is available to save postage.
Historical Information:
The cartridge plate stamping came out of the factory archives of CE Ward in New London, OH. CE Ward acquired MC Lilley in 1951. Between 1924-1945 the MC Lilley Company owned the military business of W. H. Horstman Co and it is likely that the unfinished plate was acquired from Horstman as New Old Stock in the 1920’s and not returned to Philadelphia when the company was sold back to Horstman employees in 1945.
