    Description

This has been one of the treasured items of my collection.  As a student of the Indian Wars era, this original 1881 Army Register has been invaluable in tracing the history of some of the most important army officers of the period.  Some mentioned in detail are Frederick Benteen and Marcus Reno, both survivors of the Custer fight in '76.  Here we see that Reno was dismissed from the army in 1880.  Others who became known for their contributions during the Geronimo campaigns are Emmet Crawford (KIA in the campaign later), Charles Gatewood and John  Bourke.  Associated with the famous Buffalo Soldiers cavarly regiments are Henry Flipper, first black man to graduate from the Military Academy and assigned to the all black 10th Cavarly and Louis Nesmith, who was KIA while serving with the 9th Cavarly against Apaches in NM.  The book is in very good condition internally, but the binding is somewhat loose and the cover was replaced more than a century ago, seems to me.
